Home Designs

So when you redesign your home, what exactly should you do to it? If you're short on inspiration, here are a few ideas to get you started.

The place where many people like to really go to town with their design ideas is in babies' and children's rooms – you can paint them bright colours, do imaginative pictures of fantasy environments, draw pictures of the child's favourite characters from books and TV, and so much more besides. If you do this, why not let the child join in with the painting and show you what they want, with you just being there to help make their decoration dreams come true. However, a thing to be careful of is to keep redecorating their room as they get older – you don't need them to be embarrassed to bring around friends when they are a teenager because of their babyishly coloured room.

Another idea could be to make an 'outdoors' house, taking inspiration from your garden in how to design your home. This means lots of greens and blues, lots of plants, outdoor fragrances, lots of windows – a real outdoor feel indoors.

Indeed, the best way to design a home yourself is often to just pick a theme and take it as far as it will go. I know a couple with a 'space house', complete with portraits of rockets and black ceilings with painted stars – it sounds silly, but it's really interesting to look at. Whatever you're passionate about, make your house show it.

Don't forget, though, that redecorating doesn't have to be all about tearing things down and buying new stuff. You can get a long way with a few posters, ornaments, or just reorganising or repainting your furniture. You really don't need to break the bank and hire a handyman to get your ideal home, as a little work can go a long way.

Interior Home Design

Using hardwood floors for interior design and for home decorating, based on furniture of the eighteenth century may be discussed from different points of view. However, what most people realize is the distinguish details of tables made from that century. Dinner and wine tables were any of those pieces of furniture that could add a different touch of class to your interior decorating. Learn from the history of furniture book, by Frederick Litchfield ideas on how 18th century furniture, from the earliest to the present time.

To the latter part of the eighteenth century the English furniture of which time has been discussed on the site belong the quaint little "urn stands" which were made to hold the urn with boiling water, although the tea pot was placed on the little slide which is drawn out from underneath the table top. In those days tea was an expensive luxury, and the urn stand, of which there is an illustration, inlaid in the fashion of the time, is a dainty relic of the past, together with the old mahogany or marqueterie tea caddy, which was sometimes the object of considerable skill and care. They were fitted with two and sometimes three bottles or tea-pays of silver or Battersea enamel, to hold the black and green teas, and when really good examples of these daintily-fitted tea caddies are offered for sale, they bring large sums.

Eighteenth Century Wine Tables

The wine table of this time deserves a word. These are now somewhat rare, and are only to be found in a few old houses, and in any of the Colleges at Oxford and Cambridge. These were found with revolving tops, which had circles turned out to a slight depth for each glass to stand in, and they were sometimes shaped like the half of a flat ring. These latter were for placing in front of the fire, when the outer side of the table formed a convivial circle, round which the sitters gathered after they had left the dinner table.

One of these old tables is still to be seen in the Hall of Gray's Inn, and the writer was told that its fellow was broken and had been "sent away. " They are nearly always of good rich mahogany, and have legs more or less ornamental according to circumstances.

A distinguishing feature of English furniture of the last century was the partiality for secret drawers and contrivances for hiding away papers or valued articles; and in old secretaries and writing tables we find a great many ingenious designs which remind us of the days when there were but few banks, and people kept money and deeds in their own custody.

Kitchen Design

Kitchen cabinet doors can add to the beauty of your kitchen. The appearance of your kitchen cabinets rests on the quality of your cabinets. You can therefore completely change the look of your kitchen simply by changing the doors of your kitchen cabinets. Good kitchen cabinet design is also important if you want to get the most storage use possible out of your available storage space, and this should also be the goal in the design of any kitchen.

Kitchen Cabinet Wood Types

Kitchen cabinets may be made from dozens of woods including Oak, Maple, Pine, Cherry, Hickory, Poplar, Alder and Birch. Hickory and Oak are the hardest and the heaviest. Cherry, Birch and Maple are considered to be well suited to cabinetry. Less expensive and more plentiful woods such as Alder and Poplar work best with glazed finishes used in creating an 'antique' look. Pine is a soft wood that may be more prone to dents and scratches.

There are three types of cabinet door shapes, slab, recessed panel, and raised panel.

There are many cabinet design styles to choose from. Four of the more common cabinet design styles are: traditional, country, shaker and contemporary.

Kitchen Cabinet Construction

Kitchen cabinets are typically constructed using a combination of these kinds of woods, as well as particleboard or plywood.

Some cabinet doors are made with solid wood, which is typically more expensive. Although solid wood and plywood kitchen cabinet doors are regarded a stronger and thicker, particleboard is considered less likely to expand.

When selecting kitchen cabinets it is a good ideas to start by defining your style. Will your kitchen design be more along the lines of a traditional look with raised panel doors and a lot of ornate molding? Or will it be more of a rustic look with knotty pine and more simple detailing?

There are three main types of kitchen cabinets. These include, in-stock kitchen cabinets, semi-stock kitchen cabinets, and custom kitchen cabinets.

During times when custom-cabinet doors are more expensive than the do-it-yourself variety, the advantage is that you are able to get exactly what you want at a very high level of craftsmanship. You can tailor the cabinets to the exact specifications and needs of your kitchen.

Bathroom Design

You might be building a home and designing an entirely new bathroom. Maybe you're remodeling and adding a new bathroom or changing an existing bathroom. In any case, you've a certain amount of room to work with. Here are any ideas.

First of all, list the items you absolutely need in your bathroom. This list includes, of course, the toilet and the sink. If it is a full bathroom, you'll need to decide on a bath and shower or a shower stall.

Next are the items you would often include. Many times people want a cabinet under the sink, though if you've a small space you might prefer a pedestal. Plan on a mirror over the sink, with our without a medicine chest. Lighting is important. A fan can be helpful for keeping moisure out. You'll probably want a space for shelves of any kind.

At this point, you might want to consider asking a professional to help with design. If you feel you can do it on your own, here are any tips.

Measure your bathroom well. Choose items that you think you'd like in your bathroom and get the measurements. Some suggest drawing a plan to scale, but for those of us whoever are less visual, it can be helpful to cut paper to the actual size of the footprint of the item. Place these items in the bathroom, arranging them to where you think you would like them. This is a good way to notice how well things fit. Don't forget that you need space between things.

If everything fits well, there are a few more considerations. You might be limited by plumbing or electricity. Window placement makes a difference, too, unless you've no qualms about showering in from of a window.

If things don't fit well, play with the design a bit (if space, electrical, and plumbing allow. ) See if you can come up with more efficient use of space and still enjoy the design.

If there's just no room, you'll have to decide what you can do without. As an example, you can use a pedestal sink, which takes less space than a full cabinet. Conversely, you can use a cabinet but don't include shelves. Some towels and toilet paper can be stored in the cabinet, with the excess supplies in a convenient storage area elsewhere in your house.

A little imagination and a lot of measuring can help your dream bathroom work for you. When you find a bathroom design that works, it is time to put the pieces together. It is a lot of work, but it can be worth it.

Outdoor Paint

The key to all effective outdoor paintball gun strategies is practice. Every professional paintball team spends many hours going over their paintball gun strategies. Practice allows you to have individual skills and enhance teamwork. There are four steps you should use when practicing outdoor paintball gun strategies.

Discussion

Before you even being training it is best to go over the various field plans as a team and decide on the best paintball gun strategies you should use. Consider the different situations you may run into and the plans you can use. Before you actually set foot on the field you need to make sure everyone is clear on what to do.

Dry Training

In this step you need to take the time to walk through all your paintball gun strategies. You don't have to do this on the actual field, especially if you don't know where its going to be. You can practice in your backyard if necessary, just make sure everyone knows what your paintball gun strategies look like when they are in progress.

Half-Speed Training

In this training method you will actually use paintballs. Go through all of your paintball gun strategies, but go slowly like yourself did with dry training. Don't rush and use soda cans as targets. If you can hit soda can during training, you will have no trouble hitting your opponent during the game.

Full-Speed Training

Now you will be running through the field and using paint as if you were playing against real opponents. It is a good idea to do this first on the speedball field where you can get a feel for your paintball gun strategies and how the team works. Then you can do a practice run in the woods before you are ready to face your opponents.

Practice is a long and important process. By following the four steps of practice you can be successful every time you step on the field. However, any keys to successfully completing your paintball gun strategies include knowing the terrain; having good communication and teamwork; and being able to move effectively.

Know The Terrain

Study your terrain well and look for any advantages. If there are hills you can slowly climb up at a crouch. Then when you reach the top you can pop-up for a quick look before dropping to your stomach for protection. This way you can quickly and easily see what targets are available.

If the goal is to protect your flag then you should look for a tree that gives you good protection while allowing for movement. It may be a good idea to try sitting in the tree and suprising your opponents from above.

Communication and Teamwork

Communication is essential to outdoor paintball gun strategies. Make sure you have your movements planned so that everyone instinctively knows where to go and what to do just by watching each other. In outdoor paintball games communication doesn't necessarily mean the verbal kind. You don't need the other team to know what you are doing so silent communication is important. Choose a leader and base your reactive strategy off them. Choose your leader based on tactical experience, military sense and nerve.

Movement

The most important part of outdoor paintball gun strategies is movement. If you need to rush through the woods it is best to stay on uncluttered ground. When you are in the woods the spot you step on will have an impact on how loud you are. It is best to have comfortable hiking boots especially if the area is muddy and the ground is unlevel.

Another key to silence in outdoor paintball gun strategies is your hopper or paintball pods. If they are half-filled they will be as loud as baby rattles. You should choose pods that are about half or 3/4 the size of your hopper.
